Pusat Background

PUSAT PENJAGAAN KANAK-KANAK CACAT TAMAN MEGAH

(The Pusat) was founded by the LATE MR.S.K MANIKUMAR A/L S. KANAN, himself physically handicapped, with a vision to provide an environment for the benefits of 'Special' children. In 1997 The Pusat was officially registered the home under the welfare as a non-profit organization. The founder dedicated his whole life to fulfill this vision, until he suddenly passed away in a motor vehicle accident in 2006, at the age of 43. Even on his last journey, he was on the road to raise funds for these children. His death came as a total shock and left a huge void in the Pusat.

In recognition of his services, he was posthumously awarded the NST  Price Waterhouse Coopers Malaysian the LIFETIME HUMANITARIAN AWARD by the Hon. Prime Minister Dato Sri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in December 2006.

There are 138 children of all races living at the Pusat, ranging in age from 9 months and adults up to 56 years of age and coming from all over peninsular Malaysia. About a 100 children are disabled with various disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, micro cephalous, hydro cephalous, global delay, epilepsy, stroke, muscular dystrophy, hyper activity, physical challenges, intellectual disabilities as well as speech, audio and visual impairments. The rest are normal children who come from broken, abused or single parent backgrounds.

Sixty seven children are going to school; of these thirty are normal children and go to normal schools; three children in nursery, one doing diploma in Nursing (MAHSA College) while the rest are in special school.

Mission

Although the Pusat is doing yeoman service, this decentralized system of housing its residents in different buildings is not in the best interest of the residents and has caused other difficulties for the administration. Mindful of the feedback from the relevant authorities and the Taman Megah Residents Association, the Pusat has entered into an agreement for the purchase of a piece of land  Lot 13488 (33982 Sq. ft.) on which we intend to build a one-stop centre. The total cost of the project (building plus land) is expected to be in the region of RM 6 million.

In January 2009, the Pusat fully settled the deal for the land and is having the soil tested for building requirements. Once this is completed the design process will begin led by our architect. RM 5.5 million projected to be the cost of the building yet to be built on this land, subject to the design of the architect. The Pusat currently has RM 200, 000.00 raised to put towards this project with RM 5.8 million left to be raised so financial assistance is needed to remedy this pressing issue.

Needless to say, we do not possess the financial strength to settle this problem alone. Therefore, the Pusat has launched an all-out fundraising drive and welcomes any form of assistance from kind hearted souls.

Objectives

To provide an environment for the betterment of young disabled children, for their difficulties to be recognized and for them to be given equal status in the society.

Why PPKKCTM

While PPKKCTMs residents are presently housed in four homes, PPKKCTM plans to move to a new premise in Taman SEA, which will house all the residents and staff members under one roof as the existing premise arent able to house the growing needs of the children in numbers.

PPKKCTM plans to build a one-stop centre on the piece of land they acquired and will have five therapy rooms, education hall, workshops and more. The projects construction would cost an estimated RM5-6mil.

Many organizations and individuals have organized various Corporate Social Responsibility programs in aid of this building fund including Charity For Sale, Cyberview Sdn Bhd, Walkabrella by students from KDU College, and also Charity Concerts.
