See Hoy Chan Sdn Bhd has donated RM133,280 to the Taman Megah Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home, contributing towards the construction of the latter’s new building in Taman SEA.

This marks the fourth time the home has received donations from the company.

Since 2006, See Hoy Chan has donated a total of RM427,500 to this children’s home, an amount raised through several fund-raising events and direct donations.

The cheque presentation ceremony at the home’s current premises at Taman Megah was attended by See Hoy Chan Sdn Bhd executive director Teo Chiang Khai, See Hoy Chan chief executive officer Joe Tan and Taman Megah Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home president R. Umah Kumar.

The funds collected were from the See Hoy Chan group of companies, company directors and staff donations.

“We believe it is important to lend a helping hand and to give back to the community.

“Because of this, we have always been supportive of grassroots community efforts.

“I hope our donation this year will help towards Taman Megah Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home’s commendable goal of long-term sustainability,” said Teo.

Over the years, See Hoy Chan has consistently supported local charities and organisations that have made a difference in the communities they serve.

A cumulative RM2.8mil has been raised and donated since 2002 through annual fundraisers, charitable events and direct donations.

Taman Megah Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home was founded in 1997, providing shelter and support services to disabled children in peninsular Malaysia, regardless of race and religion.

Thanks to the dedicated work of volunteers and the generosity of donors, the welfare organisation has grown and currently manages four homes in Petaling Jaya, sheltering approximately 110 children full-time and 10 children in daycare.

The majority of these children have a range of intellectual and developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and speech, audio and visual impairments.

“A home like this gives disabled children a chance to thrive. We are pleased to contribute to this worthy initiative,” said Teo.

Taman Megah Handicapped and Disabled Children’s Home’s new four-and-a-half storey facility in Taman SEA, upon completion, will have enough space for about 250 children.

It will allow easy access to rehabilitative facilities such as physiotherapy, massage rooms, clinics, hydrotherapy pools and special play areas.

The new centre will also offer educational facilities such as a fully equipped computer lab, a library and study rooms.

See Hoy Chan’s donation will cover the building and fitting costs for two Special Children’s Activity Rooms and a Children’s Bedroom in the facility.
